Find Me On The Bookshelf Yes, it's plug time once more. Some of my newest work can be found in The I Hate the 21st Century Reader, available now from Avalon Books and Thunder's Mouth Press. I have four essays in the book, and I'm featured on the back cover for my epic poem, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Roker." I am slightly embarrassed to admit that this poem is probably the best thing I've ever written. Somehow, I thought I would do more with my life. Ah, well, I've still got a few more years before the smoking, red meat and Circus Peanuts catch up with me.
I also have essays on extreme science, fake medicine and why I love and hate pro wrestling. I should note the latter was written before the sad death of Eddie Guerrero. Since then, a combination of tasteless exploitation, refusal to change certain steroid-related issues and some spectacularly bad programming have driven me away from WWE wrestling altogether.
Readers of Things That Suck will note that they have already seen the essays by yours truly, but "The I Hate the 21st Century Reader" also features pieces by David Sedaris, Calvin Trillin, Greg Palast, Eric Altman and many more. (And yes, I'm quite smug about the company I'm keeping in these pages, thank you very much.)
Due to the unfortunate economies of self-publishing, I am forced to confess that you will get more for your money by ordering "The I Hate the 21st Century Reader" than by ordering "Things That Suck." But if you're a J.M. Berger purist, the latter will ultimately be more satisfying.
